Jon Jones Stripped of UFC Light Heavyweight Title After Positive Cocaine Test

BREAKING NEWS: Jones Tests Positive for Cocaine, UFC Terminates Contract

UFC's Most Dominant Champion Fails Third Drug Test

Las Vegas, Nevada - The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has announced that Jon Jones, the promotion's long-reigning light heavyweight champion, has been stripped of his title and immediately terminated from the organization following a positive cocaine test.

The 32-year-old fighter, considered one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time, failed an out-of-competition drug test administered by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA). The test, conducted on December 9, 2020, revealed the presence of benzoylecgonine (BE), the primary metabolite of cocaine.

This is not Jones' first violation of the UFC's anti-doping policy. In 2015, he was suspended for one year after testing positive for turinabol, an anabolic steroid. In 2017, he was suspended for two years after testing positive for a clomiphene, an anti-estrogen drug.

  • Jones has now failed three drug tests in his career.
  • He faces a potential lifetime ban from the UFC.
  • The UFC has terminated Jones' contract with immediate effect.

The UFC's statement on the matter was brief but firm:

"The UFC organization has been informed that Jon Jones has tested positive for a banned substance, specifically benzoylecgonine (BE), the primary metabolite of cocaine," the statement read. "As a result, Jones has been stripped of his UFC Light Heavyweight Championship and his contract with the promotion has been terminated."

Jones has not yet commented on the matter.
